Girls Swap Meet

I love talking with my customers. They all have great ideas on how to spend time with friends and giving me ideas for things to do on weekends or evenings.

One idea I received from a customer is to hold a "Swap Meet" at my house! I can't wait. The idea is that you invite girlfriends over, they all bring clothes, shoes, purses, books, accessories that they no longer use; you put them in a pile and everyone picks out what they would like. You go home with a bunch of new things without spending any money! Plus, you can feel good giving away, or trading, things you don't want anymore. I've just sent out the invitations - I'm hoping there will be some new size 8 shoes coming over next week.

Just held a clothing and accessories exchange with a dozen girlfriends last week and it was a huge hit!
A few tips:
1. Ask your friends to bring things over ahead of time so you can set them up by tops/bottoms/jewellery/purses etc.
2. As everyone enjoys a glass of wine the night of, let them "browse" for about an hour, trying things on if desired.
3. Provide pen and paper so they can write down the items that interest them.
4. When it comes time to actually pick stuff out to keep, pick numbers out of a hat (or use a deck of cards). Number 1 chooses an item to keep first, 2 goes second, etc. Then do a round backwards: 12 goes first, 11 goes second, etc. Repick numbers and do as many rounds as the girls are up for.
5. At the end of the night, everyone goes home with a pile of "new" stuff. The rest gets donated or consigned. If consigning, put the money earned into a "girls' night out fund" for another fun night!
